THE COMMUNITY DINNER HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 17 DUE TO WEATHER. ALL THE REST OF THE DETAILS REMAIN THE SAME
We are gearing up for the 2013 3rd Annual Community Dinner. If you'd like to participate or want more information, please contact Wendy Carson.
The 3rd Annual Community Dinner is hosted by the Colorado Springs Community Alliance with assistance from the Local Foods Working Group, a part of the Green Cities Coalition. The dinner this year is on Sunday, September 15, from 5-9 pm at Hillside Gardens on South Insititute.
We are interested not only in having more individuals and families attend the dinner, but we'd like more LOCAL BUSINESSES to join us as well!
The Jake Loggins Band will be providing entertainment!
What is the Community Dinner?
Falling on the first day of Local Food Week in Colorado Springs, the Community Dinner is a way for the community to get together and enjoy local food in a unique pot-luck setting. The only requirement for participation is to bring a dish made of all local ingredients that will feed 15 people. These ingredients can be found in backyard gardens, famers markets, and local shops.
We'll have live entertainment: music, artists, and for the kids. The dinner will be held under Hillside Garden's pavillion, tables decorated with linens and flowers. As past attendees know, the event is a way to connect with others that are interested in local food and business.
Local restaurants and chefs are invited to participate by bringing food or doing live demonstrations. Local businesses are invited to sponsor and take part in the silent auction. If you are interested, please contact CSCA.
The silent auction will be used to collect donations to benefit the Black Forest Fire Department. We are asking local businesses to provide items for auction at the event. Check out the auction items here!
Tickets can be purchased with a donation of $5 or more. Each donor is welcome to select up to three additional seats for free to bring guests. 100% of donations go to pay for event costs. Once costs have been met, free seating will be opened up for everyone. This is a community-funded event and we thank you for your donation. Any left over donations after expenses will be given to the Black Forest Fire Department.
Each year we meet new friends, visit with old friends, make more connections and turn more people on to the idea of supporting local businesses, farms and food producers.
For our Silent Auction and door prizes, we have gift certificates for acupuncture treatment, irrigation system tune-ups, dining at Springs Orleans and Jake and Telly’s, Il Vicino, Amanda’s Fonda, Drifters, Josh and Johns, and TAPAteria. We have jam, worm castings, liver tea, baked goods and a gallon of paint. A handmade journal, hand-drawn notecards, package of 4-5 lunchtime gift cards, The Permaculture Handbook (hard back), a set of 6 Weck jars from Buckley’s, Earth Cures and Lil’ Bit Farms product selection, potted berry bushes, vegetables and herbs from Care and Share and Sandy White, $100 gift card from Mission Coffee Roasters, garlic and vegetable assortment from Pikes Peak Urban Gardens….
